HUNGER ACTION MONTH

Today is the first day of Hunger Action Month! Come to the United Way Kickoff event at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock for food and fun to start this year's annual drive. And start thinking about how you can help fight hunger during the month of September!

Then stay connected by checking the page daily for updates about Hunger Action Month!!  And go to Feeding America's Hunger Action Month site at www.hungeractionmonth.org and take the pledge to help end hunger.

9th Annual Empty Bowls art auction fundraiser

Every spring Arkansas Foodbank Network holds its annual Empty Bowls art auction fundraiser.  In 2011 Foodbank will hold our 9th annual Empty Bowls event. You'll have the chance to bid on fabulous art by Arkansas artists in live in silent auctions.  In our most recent Empty Bowls event, flavorful libations were provided by Glazer's, and some of central Arkansas' finest dining establishments, including Boudreaux's, Capriccio Grill, Catering To You, Trio's and Lilly's Dim Sum, Then Some provided delightful culinary creations. Proceeds from Empty Bowls benefit the thousands of Arkansans served by the 400 agencies that Foodbank helps to supply. Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in LIttle Rock was host  for the Arkansas Foodbank Network's 2010 8th Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser.

Stamp Out Hunger! the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive

On the second Saturday in May, the National Association of Letter Carriers holds its annual "Stamp Out Hunger!" food drive.  On that day, the Letter Carriers ask that you simply place non-perishable food items -- canned goods, boxes pancake mix, all kinds of packages that don't require refrigeration -- where your letter carrier normally picks up your mail.  In Central Arkansas, your items will be collected and brought to Arkansas Foodbank Network's warehouse.  All the donations collected here  in central Arkansas will benefit hungry Arkansans.  If you are interested in volunteering to help sort those provisions at the Arkansas Foodbank Network on the evening of the "Stamp Out Hunger!" food drive, contact Kisha Bumpers at (501) 565-8121, ext. 23 or kbumpers@arkansasfoodbank.org.  We really need the help and appreciate it!
