THV11 and the Arkansas Foodbank are excited to join and present the 2020 Summer Cereal Drive! This year marks a milestone for one of Arkansas’ largest and best-known hunger relief initiatives, and we are so excited to celebrate two decades of growth and unprecedented success while challenging teams and individuals to make this the most successful SCD to date.
Since 2000, teams across central and south Arkansas have competed to provide the most cereal to our neighbors facing hardships—particularly children during summer months. While many of us look forward to summer, 1 in 4 children in our state face increased levels of food insecurity as schools close classrooms and kitchens during summer break. It’s impossible to measure the true impact the SCD has made over two decades’ time, but we have measured its growth. What started as a campaign to provide breakfast cereal to students during summer break has grown exponentially. In the late 2010s, the proceeds of the SCD have met the Arkansas Foodbank’s annual cereal needs; we are able to provide cereal at no cost to our 324 member agencies for 12 months, a feat made possible only by the generosity of people like you.
COVID-19 HAS CREATED AN URGENT NEED FOR DONATIONS
Over 80 teams competed in 5 divisions in 2019 to raise 320,383 donations. These businesses, community organizations, and kid-lead teams need your support to break this record and help us reach our goal of 300,000 boxes of cereal + 100,000 pounds of fresh produce. The best way to contribute is make a monetary donation earmarked to support the team of your choice. Donate online here or contact the team captain to make arrangements for cash or checks.
You may also donate healthy cereal at your team’s collection site. Again, contact the team captain to make these arrangements.
We challenge you to donate healthy cereal versus those with high sugar and fat content. An easy way to determine if a particular variety of cereal meets our health criteria is reviewing the Nutrition Facts label. Download our guideline for buying healthy cereal here.
“SHOP & DROP” DROP-OFF SITES AT RETAIL PARTNERS
Our friends at Harps, Kroger, Super 1 Foods, and Walmart will have bins located in their stores for you to “Shop & Drop” your cereal donations on your next visit, now through July 17th, 2020. Participating locations only; see the complete list of retail drop-off sites here.
“SNAP, CRACKLE, & POP… YOUR TRUNK” DROP-OFF EVENTS
There are 3 opportunities for teams to drop off the cereal they’ve collected this summer. We’ve adopted a drive-thru model which adheres to the CDC’s social distancing guidelines, and comply with state and local regulations. All you have to do is pop your trunk and our team of staff and volunteers will unload your vehicle while you wait. Donating your cereal has never been easier!
- Team Captains should be prepared with the total number of cereal boxes being delivered.
- Cash/check donations your team has collected should be turned in at these events. Don’t forget to complete the official Donation Envelope ahead of time to ensure your team is properly credited.
