In honor of Veterans Day, Foodbank announces partnership with Kroger to feed local veterans
In honor of Veterans Day, we are so happy to announce that Kroger has partnered with the Arkansas Foodbank to feed local veterans facing hunger. Through this partnership that was established in October of 2018, over 760 boxes filled with nutritious food have been given out to veterans in central Arkansas, like Alex who is pictured above. We met Alex at one of our distributions in May. Alex served our country in the Army from 1976-1978. Since then, he has had many jobs –from working at a steel mill to working as a plumber– but he’s recently fallen on hard times. He said this food helps him stay strong.
These boxes, filled with canned fruits, canned vegetables and fresh meats to prepare at home, are distributed every other month. The Foodbank has partnered with Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System to help reach those veterans in need.
Every other month at the distributions, not only are the veterans getting the food to take home, they’re getting helpful information. Foodbank staff are on site doing cooking demonstrations on how to creatively use the items received and also checking for SNAP eligibility and helping get those who qualify signed up for the program.
“Kroger is proud to partner with the Arkansas Foodbank to support our local veterans,” said Teresa Dickerson, Kroger Corporate Affairs Manager. “Through Kroger’s Zero Hunger Zero Waste initiative, we can provide nutritious meals for our veterans, one of our most vulnerable populations in Arkansas.”
Thank you to Kroger for helping us reach those veterans facing hunger in central Arkansas!
