Volunteering at a Foodbank Mobile Distribution

Above are Amy and Kristin, two of our repeat volunteers at our bi-monthly DAV mobile distribution in Russellville. They work for a local family services organization and we can always count on them to show up early to help sort, pack, and distribute the boxes of food.

With many new locations being added at a more frequent pace, Arkansas Foodbank’s mobile distributions have exploded since the pandemic began. Many of the people showing up for food are first time clients – neighbors who, a year ago, never had to think about asking for help. Families who were already having tough time making ends meet prior to Covid-19. Seniors who have had to struggle alone for the past year to stay safe and healthy. Many in food deserts. All being served by mobile food distributions.

This is where our volunteers shine: mobile distributions. Without these generous people, our distributions wouldn’t function. As pallets of food are dropped off, Foodbank volunteers work with the local volunteers to sort the food, pack the boxes and greet families upon arrival. Only then does the distribution start, after a lot of work. But the relief, thanks and happiness you will witness as the recipients pull through to receive a box of food makes the hard work worth it.

The farther the location of the mobile distribution from Little Rock, the more we’re in need of volunteers. So, when you sign up, I would urge you to take advantage of the summer break and sign up a few family members. Or grab a co-worker and ask your boss for some time on the clock volunteering for an amazing cause. It’s a great way to explore the state and support an amazing cause.
