Local Muslim family donates $50,000 in the spirit of Ramadan to feed fellow Arkansans.

April 2nd marks the beginning of Ramadan, the month of fasting for Muslims and a time of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and heightened devotion and worship. This year, in the spirit of Ramadan, a generous Muslim family has donated $50,000 to Arkansas Foodbank to feed fellow Arkansans, providing more than 250,000 meals to our neighbors in need. “We have always been aware of the Almighty’s blessings on us and of our obligation to share them,” says a member of the family. “The Islamic month of fasting is designed to refresh faith, the essence of which is to feel the pain of a fellow being. It is also a Pakistani tradition. The Foodbank provides us with a good way to fulfill our spiritual commitment and express our gratitude.”

During a time when so many families are struggling due to increases in the cost of food and gas, this donation will provide hope to so many families in central and southeastern Arkansas. “This donation is coming at a critical time for the Foodbank,” says Sarah Riffle, Chief Development Officer. “We are seeing expenses rise drastically as we continue to try and meet the increased need for food so many families are currently being faced with. We are so grateful for the support of this wonderful family during such a special time of reflection and spiritual commitment.”

Ramadan Mubarak!
